Why to use Hiawatha - Banshee ?

* Six months continuously * Hiawatha/Banshee is running quite well on my Net node.

Some modest experience/advise/remarks =>

Me ? Thirty years in Unix, low-level programming (C, ...), IP, Databases, ...
Saw the http/Web from the beginning, arrival of the "cgi" potentials.

But never loved much the more and more complicated way it was going in the "Web".
Just for connecting two hosts, and exchange data (I like "ftp" :-).
Ok, of course, it's the way it goes, understood reasons, end-user
interaction, sociological, etc.

During years, explorating the so called "CMF" tools. Never liked them.
As a minimalist, I saw again and again tools of the church "why to
make it simple when you can make it complicated ?".

But ... I like also, I need, a good < http server / content management server > duo.

Exploring again, I saw Hiawatha. See the description, the goals. The security.
I did not want to return to the heavy "leader" (?) "Apache".
I downloaded it. Light. Clean "C" code. Compiled in minutes.
Clean config file.

Then Banshee. At least some not-heavy tool for helping you to interact elegantly with the Database !
Idem. Quickly installed. Clean code. Clean view of the structure.

The time you believe you'll avoid using a cumbersome "mainstream" swiss-knife CMF tool ? A big mistake.
Eighty megabytes (or more) to do what ? All those files ... And when you want some control ?
Better to make a small effort for the low-level part ("php", "css" ...),
and less time lost, than to understand the CMF philosophy of "X",
different from "Y" one. And being not very quiet about its security :-)

See the site/forum remarks for more technical aspects of Hiawatha. Security. Speed.

I just wanted to give you the result of a long evaluation/test process.
From an "old" aficionado of the unique Unix/Posix way, must be said again.

A final remark: how heavy is your actual production system ? One of
mine (a Debian), complete, all IP servers, Databases, various
compilers, tools, and more : less than three gigabytes.
Isn't a good question :-?
More heavy it will be, more security vulnerabilities it will have. A fact.
This famous "security" everybody is speaking about :-)

Thanks again for people doing clean programming, outside of "churchs".
Thanks to Hugo !
